Dr. Evelyn Ford Crayton, RDN, LDN, FAND, was the 90th President of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), serving in that role in 2015-16 as the organization’s first African-American President.
Her service to the Academy includes serving as President of the Tuskegee (Alabama) and Alabama dietetic associations, chair of the Nutrition Education for the Public dietetic practice group, professional issues delegate, House Leadership Team, Council on Future Practice, and on the Boards of Directors of both the Academy and its Foundation.
Retired following a more than 40-year career ranging from extension specialist to assistant director of extension at Auburn University, Crayton is self-employed as director of Living Well Associates, LLC, in Montgomery, Alabama, where she continues to work with students; aspiring registered dietitian nutritionists; nutrition and dietetics technicians, registered; and professional colleagues.
Crayton’s area of specialty is Nutrition Education for the public. She has presented professionally throughout the national and international arena on topics relating to nutrition and health literacy. Crayton is also the author of a food preservation book and has published in refereed journals and authored many Alabama Extension Service publications, videos, slides, and other curricula.
Crayton earned her undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences from Grambling State University before going on to receive her master’s from St. Louis University and her EdD from Auburn University.
Her many awards include being named Alabama Outstanding Dietitian as well as being recognized by the Alabama Extension Service, Grambling State University, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. as well as being named one of the Top 100 leaders in Alabama.
